Question 716345: I'm struggling with simplifying this equation.
Thank you, in advance, for your help.
6 {X + 2} - 5 {X-3} - 9 = ?
Here's how I've attempted to solve.
6X + 12 - 5X + 15 - 9 =
X + 18 =
I've not gotten any further. If I place the 18 on the opposite side of the equals, it'll become a - 18, thus X = - 18 ?
I'm trying to simplify and struggling. Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! You don't know what's on the other side of the equals sign, so just ignore the equals sign all together
So you would just simplify like you are doing in your work above to get the final answer to be x + 18
and you're done. You can't solve for x because you don't know what x+18 is equal to.
