No, when the exponents of the base are the same, you simply add the numbers. Think about 20 + 40. 20 is 2 x 10^1 and 40 is 4 x 10^1. When you add
2+x+10+%2B+4+x+10 you get 6+x+10, right?
Now try it for %285+x+10%5E2%29+%2B+%286+x+10%5E2%29. Do you get 11+x+10%5E2?
