Question 71565: i have problem with this ques..plz will u help me...
1)If P(A)=1/3 and P(B)=3/5 and p(A U B)=14/15, then what type of events they are. By what number should P(A) be multiplied to make them independent? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! General formula: P(A or B) = P(a)+P(b)-P(A and B)
Substituting given values you get: 14/15 = (1/3)+(3/5)-P(A and B)
Then: 14/15 = (5+9)/15 -P(A and B)
Then: P(A and B) = 0
Therefore A and B are mutually exclusive.
------------
For A and B to be independent P(A)*P(B) = P(A and B)
You have a value for P(A) and P(B) but none for P(A and B);
I don't see how you would do the problem.
