THERE IS A CLASS OF PSYCHOLOGY STUDENTS.THEIR PROFESSOR ASKED THEM TO INVESTIGATE
EACH OF HIS PATIENTS AND GIVE THEIR ASSESMENT.THERE ARE AS MANY PATIENTS AS THERE ARE STUDENTS.THUS EACH STUDENT IS EXPECTED TOO INVESTIGATE EACH OF THE PATIENTS AND GIVE THEIR REPORT.
IF THE TOTAL NUMBER OF INVESTIGATIVE REPORTS EXCEEDED THE CLASS STRENGTH INCLUDING THE PROFESSOR BY 55 HOW MANY STUDENTS ARE THERE?
LET THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS = X
NO OF PATIENTS =X
HENCE NO. OF INVESTIGATION REPORTS = X*X=X^2
STRENGTH OF CLASS INCLUDING PROFESSOR = X+1
DIFFERENCE = X^2-(X+1)= 55
X^2-X-1-55=0
X^2-X-56=0
(X-8)(X+7)=0
X=8
