Question 71488: I am having some problems with a paper that's objective is "To use the Pythagorean Theorem to solve real-life problems." There is one specific problem I am having trouble with. It reads:
A 65-foot tree is cut to a level of 3 feet from the ground. The fallen tree collapses against another tree that is 18 feet away. About how far off the ground does the fallen tree touch the second tree?
The answer choices are:
F 47.8 ft
G 48.7 ft
H 53.9 ft
J 62.3 ft
For some reason and somehow I keep getting 18.3 but apparently I don't have the right answer. Maybe I am setting it up wrong. Please help because my teacher keeps on telling me the same thing when I ask her about this question.
