You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two children on a seesaw that is 1o ft long. One child weighs 65 lb. The other child weighs 80lb. How far from the eighty-pound child should the fulcrum of the seesaw be placed so the seesaw balances?
---------------
weight 1/weight 2 = distance 2/distance 1
---------------
Place the fulcrum "x" ft from the 65 lb child.
Then the fulcrum must be "10-x" ft from the 80 lb child.
--------------------
65/80 = (10-x)/x
65x = 80(10-x)
65x = 800-80x
145x = 800
x=5.52 ft (distance of fulcrum from 65 lb child)
10-x= 4.48 ft (distance of fulcrum from 80 lb child)
--------
