Question 713754: math problem... i am a 3 digit number, i am greater than 400 and less than 600, the digit in the tens is 1 greater than the digit in the hundreds, the sum of the digits is 12, so what number am i???? need some help with this problem please....

Greater than 400 and less than 600, so the number has to be in the range 401 through 599. Consequently the hundreds digit is either 4 or 5. If it is 4, then the tens digit has to be 5. 4 plus 5 is 9. Then since 12 - 9 = 3, the number has to be 453. But if the hundreds digit is 5, then the tens digit has to be 6. 5 plus 6 is 11, and since 12 - 11 = 1. Then the number has to be 561.
So either 453 or 561 fits the criteria given.
