2(3x - 5) + x = 137 {twice the first plus the second is 137}
6x - 10 + x = 137 {used distributive property}
7x - 10 = 137 {combined like terms}
7x = 147 {added 10 to each side}
x = 21 {divided each side by 7}
3x - 5 = 58 {substituted 21, in for x, into 3x - 5}

58 is the first number and 21 is the second
