Question 71231: I am have a very hard time figuring out problems in my math class and had about 5 people try to help me. I am fine in math tell i get to a question like this:-5(3x-2y)-(x+6Y). Can some one out there explain this to me like I am a total dumb person or a little baby because that is what it is going to take. It say combane like terms.
You can put this solution on YOUR website! -5(3x-2y)-(x+6Y)
{Note that -(x+6y) is the same as -1(x+6y))
We will first get rid of the parens by applying the distributive law which states that a(b+c)=ab+ac and we get:
-15x+10y-x-6y
Next, we will collect like terms which means that we will add x's together, the y's together and the numbers together (and there are no numbers) and now we have:
-16x+4y
We will now apply the distributive law again (which means that we factor out a -4) and we get:
-4(4x-y)--------------------------ans
