Question 712081: A stack of $20, $50, and $100 bills was retrieved as part of a police investigation. There were 43 more $50 bills than $100 bills. Also, the number of $20 bills was 3 times the number of $100 bills. If the total value of the money was $6560 find the number of each type of bill. I have tried and tried to figure out how to set this problem up and just can't figure it out. I'm not asking for the answer exactly. Just need help setting up an equation and maybe a short explanation on how to set problems like this up in the future. Thanks so much in advance for any help you can provide. -Melissa

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let a = the number of 20's
let b = the number of 50's
let c = the number of 100's
B = c + 43
A = 3c
20a + 50b + 100c = 6560
260c + 50c + 2150 + 100c = 6560
210c = 4410
c = 21
b = 21 + 43
b = 64
a = 3x21
a = 63
There were 63 20's, 64 50's and 21 100's
