I tried doing 5(x+12) = J
5x+60 = J. Then I tried dividing both sides by 60... But I dont know how to solve with two variables.

Let x = the original amount of dollars each of the seven had to pay.
Let J = cost of the juicer.
Your equation
(1) 5*(x + 12) = J is correct, but you need another equation because you have two unknowns, x and J. You need a relationship between x and J, which is that J was originally to be divided equally among 7 ppl or
(2) x = J/7
Now you have your two equations. Put x of (2) into (1) and get
(3) 5*(J/7 + 12) = J or
(4) 5/7*J + 60 = J or
(5) 2/7*J = 60 or
(6) J = 7*60/2 or
(7) J = 210 and from (2)
(8) x = 210/7 or
(9) x = 30
Let's check this using (1).
Is (5*(30+12) = 210)?
Is (5*42 = 210)?
Is (210 = 210)? Yes
Answer: The juicer costs $210.
