Apply the qoutient rule for logarithms: , so now you have: Rewrite this in exponential form: Multiply both sides by x. Subtract 5x from both sides. Multiply both sides by -1.
Check: Substitute x = -7. Simplify. Change the base from 2 to 10. Evaluate using your calculator or log tables.
