Question 70901: Ok so I have a problem. The question is:
Find the values of x and y for which each equation is true.
3x-5yi = 15-20i
In this situation i= the imaginary number. A friend of mine suggested that I square both sides and try to solve for x. I did this but the answer I came up with was x = (5(i[square root]7 + y))/3. When I attempted to put this into the problem the answer for y was an equally huge answer that did not make any sense. If you could please help me promptly this would be sooo much help!!!
THANK YOU!!!

You can put this solution on YOUR website! 3x-5yi = 15-20i
---------
Equate the Real parts to get 3x=15; then x=5
Equate the Imaginary parts to get -5y=-20; then y=4
Answer: x=5 and y=4
