I have worked this many times using elimination and it will not come out.

There are 24 questions on a test.
There are two types, type x and type y
so, x%2By=24.......eq.1
One type is 4 (let it be x) points and one type is 5 points (let it be y). There are 100 points in all.
so,4x%2B5y=100.........eq.2
now solve this system:
x%2By=24.......eq.1
4x%2B5y=100.........eq.2
________________________________
x%2By=24.......eq.1..solve for x
x=24-y......eq.1a.....substitute it in eq.2
4%2824-y%29%2B5y=100.........eq.2.........solve for y
96-4y%2B5y=100
96%2By=100
y=100-96
highlight%28y=4%29......type 5 points
now find x
x=24-4......eq.1a
highlight%28x=20%29......type 4 points
