A monomial literally means "one number." When you need to multiply them, you multiply each like term using exponents laws.
Example: Let's multiply the following 2 monomials:
%285x+%29%283x%5E2y%29...........group variables by exponent and group the coefficients (apply commutative property of multiplication)...you can write x as exponent like x%5E1

15%28x%5E%28%281%2B2%29%29%2Ay%29
