the question reads:
in a maths exam with N questions, you score m marks for a correct answer to each of the first q questions and m+2 marks for a correct answer to each of the remaining questions. what is the maximum possible score?
the choices then read:
A (m+2)N-2q B Nm C mq+(m+2)q D n(m+1) E Nm+q(m+2)
i have tried replacing the numbers with letters however it hasnt really helped! thanks again!

what is the maximum possible score?
:
The max score for the first q questions: mq
The max score for remaining questions: (N-q)(m+2) FOILs to: Nm+2N-mq-2q
Total score, combine like terms:
mq + (Nm + 2N - mq - 2q) = Nm + 2N - 2q
Factor out N
