You can put this solution on YOUR website!
two trains leave the station, one traveling east at 40mph the other west at 30mph. how long will it take for the trains to be 245 miles apart?
----
They are separating at the rate of 40+30 = 70 mph
----
time = distance/rate
time = 245/70
time = 3.5 hours

two trains leave the station, one traveling east at 40mph the other west at 30mph. how long will it take for the trains to be 245 miles apart?
let x=distance train traveling east
245-x=distance train traveling west
Travel time=distance/speed (same for both trains)
x/40=245-x/30
30x=9800-40x
70x=9800
x=140
Travel time=140/40=3.5 hrs
how long will it take for the trains to be 245 miles apart? 3.5 hrs
