Question 704152: It takes Bob 1/5 hour to hike 1/4 mile. What is his unit rate, in miles per hour?
I have figured out that 1/5 hour is 12 minutes. But I am having problems figuring out what to do next. 1/4 of a mile is .25 of a mile. Do I divide 12/.25?
Thanks in advance!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
1/5 hour: 1/4 mile

Multiply both parts by 5

5*1/5 hour: 5*1/4 mile

5/5 hour: 5/4 mile

1 hour: 5/4 mile

So if "It takes Bob 1/5 hour to hike 1/4 mile", then he can hike 5/4 miles or 1.25 miles in 1 hour.

Therefore, his unit rate is 5/4 mph or 1.25 mph
