You can put this solution on YOUR website!
assume the problem is:
3%5E%28%28y-5%29%29+=+4%5E%28%28y%2B1%29%29
use natural logs and the log equiv of exponents
(y-5)ln(3) = (y+1)ln(4)
divide both sides by ln(3)
y+-+5+=+%28y%2B1%29%28ln%284%29%2Fln%283%29%29
y - 5 = 1.26186(y + 1)
y - 5 = 1.26186y + 1.26186
-5 - 1.26186 = 1.26186y - y
-6.26186 = .26186y
y = -6.26186%2F.26186
y = -23.913
