Question 703219: The sum of two numbers is 75. One number is 5 more than 9 times the other number. What are the two numbers? (Write just the numbers -- no variables.)
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let the smaller number be called x.
the larger number is 9 times this plus 5
the larger number is 9x+5
These both sum to 75 so we have
x+9x+5=75
simplifying gives
10x+5=75
so therefore
10x=70
which gives x=7
If x=7 then the larger number is 9X7+5=68
the numbers are 7 and 68
