Question 702808: A study was carried out to investigate the effect of five particular mixes of soil and fertilizer, labelled A to E, on the fruiting of Capiscum (pepper) plants. The plants were to be classified according to how much fruit they produced, as follows:
Group 1: No fruit
Group 2: Some fruit
Group 3: Plentiful fruit

A large number of plants were grown, and the number in each category of soil/fertilizer type and fruit production were counted in one growing season. Plants which did not survive were not counted. This data is presented in the following table.

A B C D E
G1 10 12 10 19 15
G2 12 10 14 22 11
G3 12 15 18 20 11
Carry out an appropriate statistical test to investigate whether or not there is a link between the type of fertilizer/soil and the fruit production.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-----
Ho: row and column factors are independent
Ha: they are not independent
------------------------------
I ran an ANOVA on the 3x4 set and got the following results:
test statistic: F = 0.3004
p-value: 0.75
------
Conclusion: Since the p-value is greater than 5%, fail to reject
Ho at the 5% level of significance.
In English: The fertilizer type and fruit production are independent.
