Question 702675: Two trains are 600 miles apart, and their speeds differ by 20miles per hour. Find the speed of each train if they are traveling towards each other and will meet in three hours? I know the answers are 90 and 110, I just can't figure out the equation or how to get the answer. +please+help
R. T. = D
A- x. . 3 = 3x

B.(x-20). 3 = 3(-20)
D = 600
I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong? I'm having a hard time with this chapter on how to set the problems up.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Two trains are 600 miles apart, and their speeds differ by 20miles per hour. Find the speed of each train if they are traveling towards each other and will meet in three hours? I know the answers are 90 and 110, I just can't figure out the equation or how to get the answer.
Let x = speed of slower train
then
x+20 = speed of faster train
.
3(x + x+20) = 600
x + x+20 = 200
2x+20 = 200
2x = 180
x = 90 mph (slower train)
.
Faster train:
x+20 = 90+20 = 110 mph
