we have to change both the denominators to have the same number.
Since both denoinators have a common multiple of 18 we will change both fractions to have that denominator
we have to multiply the first fraction by 3 (both top and bottom numbers) which gives
15/18
we have to multiply the second fraction by 2 (both top and bottom again) which gives
4/18
Now the denominators are the same we can add the top numbers, 15 and 4 to give 19
So 5%2F6%2B2%2F9=15%2F18%2B4%2F18=19%2F18
this is now an improper fraction which we should change to a mixed number.
because 18%2F18= 1 one whole one, then
19%2F18=11%2F18
That's 1 and 1 eighteenth
