: Can you please help me with this problem- 2x-6y= 12
-3x+9y=12
I know you need to get one variable alone and then plug it into the other equation but I cannot figure it out. This question is from textbook Intro to Algebra
You can put this solution on YOUR website! 1st: -2x - 6y= 12
2nd: -3x + 9y= 12
-----------
Multiply 1st by -3 and 2nd by -2 to get:
3rd: 6x + 18y = -36
4th: 6x - 18y = -24
-------
Add 3rd and 4th to get:
12x=-60
x=-5
Substitute into 1st to solve for y:
10-6y=12
-6y=2
y=-1/3
--------
check in 2nd:
-3(-5) +9(-1/3) = 12
15-3= 12
12=12
