Question 701390: |a|=6
Answer by neatmath(302) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! This is a quick absolute value question.
The definition of the absolute value function in words:
Take the number as is if it is positive or zero.
Take the opposite of the number if it is negative.
Now, when we have an absolute value equation, we need to do a little work:

means, what number can we take the absolute value of to get 6?
OR
The answer is a=6 or a=-6.
It really is that simple.
For most, if not all, absolute value equations you should have two solutions.
There is a LOT more to it, but this is a good start.
I hope this helps! Keep practicing! :)
