I would be grateful if u solve this, it is from the chapter 'simultaneous equations'. Found 2 solutions by stanbon, josmiceli:Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! The sum of two numbers is 55. The qoutient obtained by dividing the larger number by the smaller number is 2, with a remainder of 7. Find the two numbers.
-------
Equations:
x + y = 55
x/y = 2
----
Rearrange:
x + y = 55
x = 2y
----
Substitute for "x" and solve for "y":
2y + y = 55
3y = 55
y = 55/3 = 18 1/3
-----
Solve for "x":
x = 2y
x = 2(55/3)
x = 115/3 = 36 2/3
------
