Question 700879: Joe and Moe can mow the lawn in 33 minutes together. If Moe works 2 times faster than Joe, how fast does Joe work alone? Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Joe and Moe can mow the lawn in 33 minutes together. If Moe works 2 times faster than Joe, how fast does Joe work alone?
-------------------
Joe does 1/x of the lawn per minute.
Moe does 3/x of the lawn per minute.
-----
1/x + 3/x = 1/33
33 + 99 = x
x = 132 minutes for Joe alone.
---------------
A hazard here is that the author might think "2 times faster" is the same as 2 times as fast. It is not the same.
