You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let the numbers be +x+ and +y+
given:
(1) +x+%2B+y+=+15+
(2) +3x+=+5y+-+11+
-------------------
(2) +3x+-+5y+=+-11+
Multiply both sides of (1) by +3+
and subtract (2) from (1)
(1) +3x+%2B+3y+=+45+
(2) +-3x+%2B+5y+=+11+
+8y+=+56+
+y+=+7+
and, since
(1) +x+%2B+y+=+15+
(1) +x+%2B+7+=+15+
(1) +x+=+8+
-------------
The numbers are 7 and 8
check:
(2) +3x+=+5y+-+11+
(2) +3%2A8+=+5%2A7+-+11+
(2) +24+=+35+-+11+
(2) +24+=+24+
OK

The sum of two numbers is 15. Three times one of the numbers is 11 less than five times the other.
-------
Equations:
x + y = 15
3x = 5y-11
------
Rearrange:
3x + 3y = 3*15
3x - 5y = -11
----
Subtract and solve for "y":
8y = 56
y = 7
