Let's start working out the age of each person, starting with Tom.
Since Adam is x years old and Tom is twice that i.e. 2 times Adam's age, so we can say
Tom is 2x years old.
Now, Suzanne is 5 years older than him, (Tom i assume), so we add 5 to Tom's age. This means that
Suzanne is 2x+5 years old.
Now, Adam's mother is Tom and Suzanne's ages added together, that is
2x + (2x+5)
This gives Adam's mother's age as
4x+5
