The problem as I see it, assume you meant the 2nd term as 1/2 instead of 1/12:

It would be easier to solve if we got rid of all these denominators, do you agree?
Note that the common denominator would be 12 and as long as we multiply every
term by 12 we will preserve equality, right?

We can do some serious canceling here, resulting in:
