USUALLY THE CORRECT WAY IS TO REDUCE THE EXPRESSION TO ITS SIMPLIEST FORM

P=a+b+c
a=3x+7
b=4x-9
c=5x+6
P=3x+7+4x-9+5x+6 collect like terms
P=12x+4
P=4(3x+1)
Either of the above expressions should be acceptable

P=Side A + Side B + Side C
P=(3x+7)+(4x-9)+(5x+6) [plug-in the values for all three sides]
P=3x+7+4x-9+5x+6 [combine like-terms]
P=12x+4
