Question 698344: What is the original height of a tree before it fell if it forms a 30-60-90 triangle with a leg length of 97 inches?
Answer by neatmath(302) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Since we are given that it is a 30-60-90 right triangle, this should be a quick problem!
In any given 30-60-90 right triangle, we have a certain relationship between the legs.
One relationship, is that the hypotenuse is always equal to 2 times the shortest leg.
Also, we know that the longer leg is always equal to the shorter leg times the square root of 3.
So, since we know the short leg is 97 inches (because it is NOT the height),
then we know that the height of the tree is inches,
which is about 168 inches almost exactly.
I hope this helps! Keep practicing! :)
