You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Let x and y be your variables.

We are given:

x%2By=50 and x-y=10

Intuitively, it doesn't matter which number is acutally bigger, x or y.

So we have a system of two equations with two variables. Perfect!

Now we just need to solve the system by using substitution or elimination.

Elimination is the easiest method in this case.

Just add the first equation to the second and you will eliminate the y variable.

%28x%2By%29%2B%28x-y%29=50%2B10

2x=60

x=30

x%2By=50

30%2By=50

y=20

So the two numbers are 20 and 30. Check this, it works.

I hope this helps! Keep practicing! :)
