You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let a=area of rectangle
Then a+5=area increased by 5
4a= 4 times the area
Now we are told that:
a+5=40-4a add 4a to and subtract 5 from both sides
a+4a+5-5=40-5-4a+4a collect like terms
5a=35 divide both sides by 5
a=7 sq units------------------------area of rectangle
CK
7+5=40-4*7
12=40-28
12=12

Hope this helps----ptaylor
