Question 695995: If the average (arithmetic mean) of ten numbers is 18 and the average of six of these numbers is 12, what is the average of the other four numbers? Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source):
If 10 numbers have an average of 18, then the sum of the 10 numbers must be 180. Likewise, the sum of 6 numbers with an average of 12 must be 72. Then the sum of the remaining 4 must be the difference between 180 and 72. Once you know the sum of the 4 numbers, the finding the average is trivial.
