You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Explain the steps you would follow to eliminate the variable x in each system of equations. Then solve the system.
6. 2x-y=6
3x+4y=-2
Multiply thru the 1st equation by 3 to get:
6x-3y=18
Multiply thru the 2nd equation by 2 to get:
6x+8y=-4
Solve:
Subtract the 1st from the second to get:
11y=-22
y=-2
Substitute to solve for "x":
2x-(-2)=6
2x+4=6
x=1
--------------------------------

Explain the steps you would follow to eliminate the variable y in each system of equations. Then solve the system.
8. 4x+7y=6
6x+5y=20
Multiply the 1st equation by 5 to get:
20x+35y=30
Multiply the 2nd equation by 7 to get:
42x+35y=140
--------
Solve:
Subtract 1st from 2nd to get:
22x=110
x=5
Substitute to solve for y:
4*5+7y=6
7y=-14
y=-2
--------------
