Question 693209: Two people leave the same spot at the same time and walk in opposite directions. One person is walking an average rate that is 120 feet per minute faster than the other. If they are 2280 feet apart after 3 minutes, what is the average rate of speed of the slower walker.
I am not sure how to set this up so that I can solve it. Please help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Two people leave the same spot at the same time and walk in opposite directions.
One person is walking an average rate that is 120 feet per minute faster than the other.
If they are 2280 feet apart after 3 minutes, what is the average rate of speed of the slower walker.
:
let s = walking speed of the slower walker, (in ft/min)
then
(s+120) = walking speed of the faster person
:
Write a distance equation; dist = speed * time
:
3s + 3(s+120) = 2280
:
See if you can do this now?
