You can put this solution on YOUR website!
d = rt

140 = r*3.5

140/3.5 = r

40 = r

r = 40

Average Speed: 40 km/hr

A unit of measurement per a unit of time is a type of division problem when given a circumstance like this. The word "per" means "for each" and it is quite common in division problems around the world of mathematics. The word "average" also lets us know that division is involved. Our unit of measurement here is kilometers, and the unit of time is hours. The problem wants to know for each hour, how many kilometers would be driven. So, all we need to do is divide the unit of measurement by the unit of time (kilometers divided by hours) to get how far the car would have traveled per hour:

140/3.5 = 1400/35 = 40 kilometers per hour (or km/h).

It could be stated that for every hour that has gone by, the car has traveled 40 kilometers. The total distance the car has traveled so far is 140 kilometers, and the total time that has been spent traveling is 3 and a half hours.
