Question 69210: there are 4 less than twice the amount of nickels. If the value of the coins are $3.60, how many nickels are there? how many quarters? Answer by stanbon(75887) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! there are 4 less than twice the amount of nickels. If the value of the coins are $3.60, how many nickels are there? how many quarters?
--------------------
Let the number of nickels be "x" ; Value of these is 5x cents
The number of quarters is "2x-4" ; value of these is 25(2x-4)=50x-100 cents
--------------
value + value = 360 cents
5x + 50x-100=360
55x=460
x=8.36
COMMENT: This is not a whole number. Something is wrong in the
wording of your problem.
