20 times 0.10 = 2
Then $20 minus $2 = $18
You pay $18.

10% is 10/100 = .1
.1(20) = 2 discount
20 - 2 = 18 amount to pay
...
Another way to think of it is that you have 10% off so you will pay 90%
90% is 90/100 = .9
.9(20) = 18 as amount to pay
