Question 69020: a piece of wire is shaped to enclose a square, whose area is 121sq. in. it is then reshaped to enclose a retangle whose length is 13in. What is the area of the retangle in square inches?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x= length of wire (in inches)
Length of one side of square would be 0.25x in
Area of square is:
%280.25x%29%5E2 and this equals 121 sq in--So:
0.0625x%5E2=121
x%5E2=1936 take sqrt of both sides
x=44 inches---------------------------------length of wire
Now 44 inches minus 2 times the length of the rectangle must equal 2 times the width of the rectangle
44-26=18 inches
Length of rectangle =18%2F2=9 inches
Area of rectangle =l%2Aw=13%2A9=117 sq in----------------------------------answer
