75% =75%2F100=0.75
so, 0.75x=120....solve for x
x=120%2F0.75
x=160........the number is 160

and now we can find 40% of the number 160
40%=40%2F100=0.40
0.40%2A160=x....solve for x
x=160%2A0.40
x=64
