Question 688410: Two students are driving back to college after spring break. They plan to drive 120 miles on the first day. They would like to add the same amount to their driving distance each day and would like to complete the 1200-mile trip in 5 days. How many miles should they drive on each day? You can put this solution on YOUR website! First make your equation. 1200=5(120)+x+2x+3x+4x, adding x for each day after the first. Simplify that to 1200=600+10x. take 10 out of it all just to clean it up a bit, so 120=60+x. simplify further to 60=x. there is the answer! The college kids will add 60 miles every day to get to the campus in 5 days.
