Question 687385: A disabled freight train is travelling towards station located 168 miles away at a speed of 32 miles per hour. a second train, traveling 80 miles per hour leaves the station on a parallel track at 4 pm. At what time will the two meet ? Found 2 solutions by mananth, josmiceli:Answer by mananth(16946) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Distance apart =168 miles
speed of train I = 32 mph
speed of train II = 80 mph
They are moving towards each other.
so they are aproaching each other with speed 80+32 = 112 mph
t= d/r
t= 168/112
= 1.5 hours
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Think of the train at the station as standing still
and the disabled train is moving at the sum of their speeds
The disabled train has to travel 168 miles to get
to the station.
Let = the time in hours to get to the station
------------------
They will meet 1.5 hrs after 4 PM, or 5:30 PM
