Question 685560: The problem ask how many miles are ran on two days. First day is 8 3/4 mi. Second day is 7 1/5 mi. I am trying to show my daughter how to compute this. We made the fraction into a mixed number by multiplying and adding to get HESE8 3/4 + 27/4 and 7 1/5 = 36/5. THEN WE ADDED THESE BY FINDING A COMMON DENOMINATOR. 20 SO IT BECOMES 144/20 + 135/20= 279/20 SIMPLIFIED TO 13 16/20. THEY GIVE THE ANSWER AND WANT IT TO THE NEAREST MILE. THE ANSWER IS 16. WHAT DID WE DO WRONG? THANKS
