You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A 25-foot-long board is to be cut into two parts.
let the longer part be x and the shorter part y
The longer part x is 1ft more than twice the shorter part y;
so,
x=2y%2B1ft........eq. 1
x%2By=25ft........eq. 2
______________________________solve this system

x%2By=25........eq. 2...plug in x from eq. 1
2y%2B1ft%2By=25ft........solve for y
3y=25ft-1ft
3y=24ft
y=24ft%2F3
y=8ft...........the shorter part
now find x
x=2y%2B1ft........eq. 1.......plug in y
x=2%2A8ft%2B1ft
x=16ft%2B1ft
x=17ft.......the longer part
