Question 684588: A pleasant day to you Sir / Madam, please help me with these word problems about direct variation. Thank you very much for your help!
The length a spring will stretch varies directly with the weight attached to the spring. If a spring stretches 3.6 cm when 44 kilograms is attached, how far will it stretch when 25 kilograms is attached?
Again, thank you so much to anyone who can help.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

If a spring stretches 3.6cm when 44kg is attached, it is 3.6cm%2F44kg ratio
it will stretch x when 25kg is attached, which is xcm%2F25kg ratio
stretching is proportional to attached weight, so we have
3.6cm%2F44kg=x%2F25kg...now cross multiply
3.6cm%2A25kg=x%2A44kg
90cm%2Across%28kg%29=x%2A44cross%28kg%29
90cm%2F44=x
2.0454545454545454545454545454545cm=x....round it
2.05cm=x
