Question 684570: Can you please help me with this:
Solve the equation:
3x^2-8x=0
Here is what i have:
-8+_ sqrt (64-4(3)(0))/2(3)
-8 +- sqrt 64-0/6
-8 +- 8/6
then -8-8/6 would be x=-16/6
and -8+8/6 would be x= 0/6
so it would be x=-16/6 x=0/6
Is this remotely close? Thanks!

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve the equation:
3x^2-8x=0
---------------
x*(3x-8) = 0
x = 0
========
3x-8 = 0
x = 8/3
------------
You can use the quadratic equation.

Quadratic equation ax%5E2%2Bbx%2Bc=0 (in our case 3x%5E2%2B-8x%2B0+=+0) has the following solutons:

x%5B12%5D+=+%28b%2B-sqrt%28+b%5E2-4ac+%29%29%2F2%5Ca

For these solutions to exist, the discriminant b%5E2-4ac should not be a negative number.

First, we need to compute the discriminant b%5E2-4ac: b%5E2-4ac=%28-8%29%5E2-4%2A3%2A0=64.

Discriminant d=64 is greater than zero. That means that there are two solutions: +x%5B12%5D+=+%28--8%2B-sqrt%28+64+%29%29%2F2%5Ca.

x%5B1%5D+=+%28-%28-8%29%2Bsqrt%28+64+%29%29%2F2%5C3+=+2.66666666666667
x%5B2%5D+=+%28-%28-8%29-sqrt%28+64+%29%29%2F2%5C3+=+0

Quadratic expression 3x%5E2%2B-8x%2B0 can be factored:
3x%5E2%2B-8x%2B0+=+%28x-2.66666666666667%29%2A%28x-0%29
Again, the answer is: 2.66666666666667, 0. Here's your graph:

Can you please help me with this:
Solve the equation:
3x^2 - 8x = 0
You are making this much harder than it is, just factor out x, and you have
x(3x - 8) = 0
Two solutions
x = 0
and
3x = 8
x = 8/3
:
:
Check in the original equation
3(8/3)^2 - 8(8/3) = 0
3(64/9) - (64/3) = 0
cancel 3 into 9
(64/3) - 64/9) = 0
