You can put this solution on YOUR website!
can you please show me how to work this out?
:
Patrick drove 3 h to attend a meeting. On the return trip,
his speed was 10 mi/h less and the trip took 4 h. What was his speed each way?
:
We don't know the distance, but we know the distance at the two different speeds is equal.
:
Let s = speed to the meeting
Then (s-10) = speed back
:
Dist = time * speed:
:
Dist in 3 hrs = Dist in 4 hr
3s = 4(s-10)
3s = 4s - 40
3s - 4s = -40
-1s = -40
s = +40 mph to the meeting
:
40 - 10 = 30 mph on the return trip
:
Check our solution: 3 * 40 = 4 * 30
:
Do you know how to do this now?
