Question 682750: Mr.Fairbanks invested half his money in land, a tenth in stock, and a twentieth in bonds. He put the remaining $35,000 in a savings account. What is the total amount of money that Mr.Fairbanks saved or invested?
I can't seem to figure out this work problem no matter what I try. You do not have to tell me the answer. I just need to know how I would solve it in order to get my answer.
Thanks!

He invested , or , or of the initial amount. This means that he had , or remaining.
Since the remainder is , which is also 35,000, then we can say that represents $35,000. From this you can use proportions to determine the initial sum before he invested and saved.
You can do the check!!
